See the beach right now

The camera looks out over the boardwalk and the dunes from our sundeck. It is here for the guests who check it in February, in the snow, to remember what they booked.

Our story

Three generations, one motel

Carl and Rosalie Del Monte moved to Wildwood in the 1970s to start a new life. They sold their house in Philadelphia, cashed out their retirement fund, borrowed from relatives, and broke ground on their first motel in October 1978.

In 1995 they bought the Matador from Rosalie's Aunt Josephine. Their son Robert and his wife Heather run it now. Carl and Rosalie have seven grandchildren, and a good number of them have worked a summer here.

I have been staying at the Matador since 1988, except for a couple of years after my husband died and I will continue to come there as long as I can.
Marie Hawkins · Guest since 1988
The Matador may not have a spa or restaurant bar with umbrella drinks, but its a place that becomes familiar, like a home away from home for all its guests. Now if you are a true NJ shore vacationer, that's what you truly want.
The Quinn family
Me and my family always enjoyed staying at this hotel. We have been coming since the 80's.
Mike Nieves · Guest since the 1980s
While you're here

What you'll actually do for four days with two kids

Every other motel site in the Wildwoods is a brochure. This is the part we can help with, because we live here.
